Anonymity Goodbye! Rumor has it that in the States, Facebook has started contacting YOUR friends to ask them if YOUR name is real! Users in other countries are also going to follow suite quite soon.

So if you thought you were being Jolly Bozo by having a name like Johnnie Wishbone, Christie Cupcake, Barry T-Bone or any other member of the foodgroup (or whatever), chances are that Facebook could tap into your friend base and actually ask them whether they know you or your name. It's not very clear what happens in this case. Thoughts are that you are urged to change your name and if you fail to, then your Facebook account is deleted.

Name verification is really not something new to networking sites. From the start,Google+ left you a week or two with your bogus name and then you got a mail asking whether it's your real name, and if not, you were politely urged to change it in good time. But they never asked your friends, they asked you!

Social Networking experts and critics all seem to agree that going behind your back and asking your listed friends anything personal about you is definetely a no no! Today it's your name.Tomorrow, it could be which party did your friend vote for? Do you think your friend is a pervert? And then what?Facebook Suspected Pervert Lists! Does it sound far fetched? Maybe not.
I for one am in favor of clarity on the Net, based on the principle that a lot of users abuse Networking to do all sorts of acts of intimidation, bullying and phishing behind a cloak of anonymity. But is a society of on-line informants and snitches what we want?
